Supporting Families through Days Measured in Monitors and Milestones, from Bedside to Bonding.
Frequently Asked Questions
A NICU Doula provides non-medical support to families during a high-risk pregnancy, NICU stay, and the transition home. While your healthcare team focuses on the health and medical care of you and your baby, a NICU doula focuses on supporting you and your family through the experience. That support may include education, emotional support, helping you process information you've received from your healthcare team, preparing questions for your care team, and simply being a steady source of support during a time that can feel overwhelming and uncertain.
No. Support can begin at any point during a high-risk pregnancy, whether or not a NICU stay is expected.High-risk pregnancy can look very different from one family to another. You may be navigating complications, bed rest or a hospitalization, or you may simply have a pregnancy that requires additional monitoring or care. Whatever your circumstances, I can provide emotional support, help you think through questions for your healthcare team, talk through birth preferences and plans, and be a steady source of support along the way.If there is a possibility that your baby may need NICU care, we can also talk about what to expect and help you feel more prepared. If your baby does spend time in the NICU, you'll already have a familiar face by your side who knows you, your family, and what you've been navigating throughout your pregnancy.
It depends on what you need. Some families need someone to listen after a difficult day. Others have questions they want to organize before rounds or a conversation with their baby's healthcare team. You may want help processing everything you've been told, figuring out what questions to ask next, supporting siblings or other family members, or simply having someone who understands how overwhelming NICU life can be.My role isn't to take over or tell you how to navigate your baby's NICU stay. It's to meet you where you are and provide education, guidance, emotional support, and a steady presence as you find what works for you and your family.
No. As a NICU doula, my role is non-medical and is not meant to replace your doctors, nurses, or other members of your healthcare team.I can help you process information you've received, organize your thoughts and questions, and prepare for conversations with your healthcare team. I can also provide education, guidance, resources, and emotional support as you make the decisions that feel right for you and your family. My role is to support you through those decisions, not make them for you.
Yes. Leaving the NICU is an exciting milestone, but it can also bring a whole new set of emotions, questions, and adjustments.Transition-home support can begin before discharge as you prepare to bring your baby home and continue afterward as your family settles into a new routine. I can help you think through questions for your baby's pediatrician or other follow-up providers, talk through concerns and changes you're experiencing, and provide emotional support as you adjust to life at home after the NICU.You don't have to feel completely ready just because it's time to go home.
Yes. I provide in-person support to families throughout Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky, as well as virtual support for families wherever they call home.Virtual support can be especially helpful when you need someone to talk with, want help organizing questions or processing information you've received, or simply need support without adding another appointment or visitor to your day.
